Collection Agency Threats

Collection AgencyCollection agency threats can be quite common and unpleasant. But you must know that they are not allowed to threaten you. The law does not allow that and it is considered harassment.

One other big threat, besides the usage of threatening words, is the garnishment of the wages. But there are few if not no cases when that happens. The law does not allow the agencies to garnish your wages.

Also among the most common collection agency threats, is the fact that they will take your home. But that is not a real threat. Many people owe a few thousand dollars. Also, the collection agency threats include the ability to press some fraud charges and even get you into jail. Scary right? But that is not the case. They can not do that. It is illegal. Just think about it. If the law could put you into jail for that, why would the collection companies still exist?

Also, the usage of bad words and defamatory sentences is forbidden. The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (or FDCPA) regulates that. This law states every collection agency threats that can be made and the ones that are illegal. It is the most useful federal law if you are dealing with this situation.

Also, you may find some other collection agency threats that do not look legal. So do not be afraid to just trust your instinct. If it does not seem legal, it probably isn’t. Read the deferral law and just protect yourself against their threats and you will be just fine and rest relaxed.
